Bant Resiliency

So as one of the last posts for today, we are very blessed to have the winning deck of our latest FNM provided to us. Yes he is a Banter and there isn't much resiliency but what he lacks, his deck makes up for.

Mainboard:
4 Voice of Resurgence
4 Fleecemane Lion
4 Selesnya Charm
3 Azorius Charm
4 Advent of the Wurm
4 Detention Sphere
4 Supreme Verdict
4 Celestial Flare
2 Ajani, Caller of the Pride
1 Banishing Light
2 Thassa, God of the Sea
4 Temple Garden
4 Hallowed Fountain
4 Breeding Pool
2 Temple of Plenty
1 Temple of Enlightenment
1 Mana Confluence
4 Plains
2 Island
2 Forest

Sideboard:
4 Loxodon Smiter
2 Sundering Growth
4 Fade Into Antiquity
2 Pithing Needle
2 Ratchet Bomb
1 Elixir of Immortality

As much as I want to face this deck, there is no way when it is built to control your opponent by removing anything they bring in. The the voices and lions come into play supersized and after wiping the board with Verdict, the game is all yours.

The Swarm Pervert SNM

Our group PERVERT has been so kind to grace us with another of his decks. This time with more bondage than tentacles...

Main board:
4 Exava
4 Spike Jester
4 Chandras Phoenix
4 Ash Zealot
4 Legion Loyalist
4 Doomblade

4 Ethereal Armor
1 Spear of Heliod
3 Unflinching Courage

Sideboard:
3 Ajani's Presence
4 Brave the Elements
4 Celestial Flare
4 Pacifism

This started off being just about HELLO KITTY and its enchantments but the cats were growing few in number for the better creatures.
The new AJANI is awesome, either you use him to make a creature bigger or you start digging for the 3 mana AJANI to get the flying double strikes hit in.

The Swarm Pervert

Second on our list of decks is the groups very own Perverted tentacle loving Swarm Leader.

The goal is to "DESTROY" every threat that the enemy puts in the way of the swarm. Bringing out Indestructible deathtouching obstacles in front of the PUNY bugs that dare claim the swarm are insignificant!

The Drunken Prophet

As promised I have started putting together deck lists.

The following is from our Drunken Prophet whose wise words bring misfortune or fortune to those who hear it. Also he had a thing for eating cards so i would keep yours safe from him.

4x Deathrite Shaman
4x Lightning Strike
4x Dreadbores
4x Magma Jets
4x Annihilating Flame
3x Flames of the Firebrand
3x Rakdos Return
2x Mogis
2x Chandras Phoenix
3x Mizzium Mortars
4x Guttersnipe
1x Master of Cruelties
1x Whip of Erobos
4x Blood Crypts
2x Temple of Malice
2 Tranquil Promenade
6x Swamp
8x Mountains

The goal is to win apparently, killing whatever is on the board and bleed the opponent out with Mogis. Bringing Guttersnipe out will ensure a quick victory or master of Cruelties if you enjoy a cheap victory.

Journey Into Nyx

So last week, pre release for the new SET JIN... Our group meets up at Anime Worx Centurion based at the Saxby Shopping Centre.

Wait, actually we were 2 stores down in the old Chinese restaurant used to be... We could still smell the left overs... Bleh
So the time comes, seal boxes no longer sealed, everyone ripping open booster after booster, for some of us this is Christmas come early. All of us sit sorting the cards out in our own unique ways from dividing into colours to sorting via set or as per the mana cost.
For me, I always firstly get it right with sorting into colours then when I've decided what my colours are going to be, I arrange them according to mana cost.

For this pre release, I chose green again, why? I like big creatures that when on the field my opponent doesn't know where to hide... Not that it always works but you get the idea.
So here I am having opened my sealed box and sorted through my cards and what luck I have, I get Xenagos, The Reveler and the red promo dragon, Spawn Of Thraxes to go along with my green promo, Hero's Bane. The next best thing, Stormbreath Dragon... What a good pre release.

So I set up a pretty good RG deck based on Xenagos with the dragons playing a support role. Even though I didn't plan it, my 40 card sealed deck had just the right balance of Lands, creatures and spells.

So our tournament starts, round 1 I face off against our famous doppelganger who is playing a RGU deck... Challenging but it didn't stand a chance against the dragons with whom I destroyed him with on my winning 2-0.

Round 2, feeling good but trying not to be too cocky... I face Christo now with a RU deck. Nice cardsw with some very scary combo's. Still with the damage I'm able to do I manage to scrape a 2-0 win out of it.

By the end of round 2, I'm feeling pretty good about my chances of winning as does a few of my fellow competitors. Then the support prize comes in for the winner, a hand made deck box. Now I really want to win and my chances are good, I'm leading what can go wrong?

I spoke too soon, round 3... I face off against Eugune, awe crap... he's playing BU and I'm already thinking that this one is going to be a challenge. It wasn't much of a challenge, the moment we started I was on the losing side and nothing I did could do anything to narrow the gap. I lost 2-0.

Still reeling after the loss I had hope, I could still win this. The final round, this time against Pieter playing a RU deck, this doesn't look to good for me but I keep my spirits high and look forward but that's all I could do, I did not have an answer at all. It was as though my deck decided cool, we worked now we won't work. I lost again 2-0.

All the results are in, its a 4 way tie for 1st and a 4 way tie for 5th. Interesting... So as we are good people, a play off happened for the top 4 between Pieter, Eugune, Juan and Johan. 1st Round, Johan vs Juan, the latter being the winner. Eugune vs Pieter where the latter won. Again another playoff as Eugune (BU) vs. Juan (WB) and the overwhelming power of WB leads to Juan winning.

Not a bad outing, finishing 7th out of the 12 players.
Still my prize boosters gave me sonme interesting ideas which will be tested out with this FNM.

The Beginning

Greetings everyone

Well I've decided that because the winners always get the glory, there should be some small text about the losers as well and this is where all of this leads to.

For the weeks to come, there will be loads of feedback, deck lists, losing scores, winning scores (for the losers who actually aren't very good at losing) and much more.
